In this bumper episode Mike, Rich and Steve tackle seven new films!
We kick off with HELL HATH NO FURY, directed by the one and only Jesse V Johnson. We've been waiting with baited breath for this one, so does it live up to the hype??
Next is THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR, a film curated from the SHUDDER streaming service, and does a good job of upholding its reputation for quality horror!
Steve Lawson is a director we have a lot of time for, and we review his latest period action/drama, THE HIGHWAYMAN...
The Australian brothers Tristan and Kiah Roach-Turner crafted a love-letter to both Mad Max and zombie movies with their first film Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead. Seven years later they have produced the next chapter in the bloody WYRMWOOD: APOCALYPSE.
THE NEXT GIRL is a hallucinatory trip of a film which split opinions - check out our review in the episode!
THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN is a dramatic retelling of the true-life tragedy which befell an elderly person when police are dispatched to provide medical assistance.
and in FAYE, actress Sarah Zanotti has to carry the whole film as she is the only one in it!
Our Short Shot is the excellent TWISTING TIGER, which would make an great pairing with Paper Tigers! Click the link to watch the whole 30 min film!
Finally, our DTV Throwback is FEAST - another film which wildly split opinions this week!

In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve take a look at two new releases, starting with FATHER OF FLIES. This finds a young boy trying to navigate the new family dynamic now that his step-mother has moved into his home, while trying to make sense of the supernatural goings-on which started shortly after she arrived!
Our second review is YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER. Set on a council estate in Northern Ireland, a young girl tries to understand the wild shifts in mood that her mother is suffering from.
Our Short Shot is TROLLIED, very entertaining short featuring one of our favourite tropes, the "inanimate object made evil". Click the link to watch the whole 4 min short.
Finally, our DTV Throwback finds Wesley Snipes as THE CONTRACTOR, an ex-CIA agent sent to London to complete an unfinished mission.

Episode 190: The Ledge, The Misfits, Restless, Jester Must Die, Deep Freeze

Monday Mar 14, 2022
This week Mike, Rich and Steve start our 190th episode (!) by reviewing THE LEDGE, the latest film from Howard J Ford (The Dead, Don't Let Go). This sees a young climber having to scale a mountain with minimal equipment to escape some killers...
Next is THE MISFITS, starring Pierce Brosnan as a thief recruited by some "Robin Hood" types to pull off a daring heist. This is currently available on Amazon Prime!
Over on Netflix, we cover the recent French thriller, RESTLESS, which sees a corrupt cop having what could possibly be the worst day of his life! This is a remake of a Korean thriller called A Hard Day, which can itself be rented via Amazon (and other streaming sites).
Our Short Shot is JESTER MUST DIE in which a bodyguard helps the daughter of his boss escape from his clutches. This is directed by Michael Lehr, one of the best fight choreographers out there. Check the link to watch the whole 16min short but do check out his other work too!
Finally we take a look at DEEP FREEZE in our DTV Throwback - a team of post-grad students arrive at a deep mining platform in the Antarctic only to discover something has awoken deep under the ice.

This week Mike, Rich and Steve take a look at a couple of films currently available on Netflix. First up is LAST MAN DOWN, starring bodybuilder-turned-actor Daniel Stizen. Then we have THE DIESEL, an Egyptian action film about a stuntman who becomes embroiled in a weird conspiracy...
We also check out INCARNATION, starring Taye Diggs and Michael Madsen, involving a couple who move into a new house only to find themselves sucked into demonic shenanigans!
Mike and Rich then attempt to review ZEROS AND ONES, the latest film from Abel Ferrara and starring Ethan Hawke. Its certainly a ...ahem...challenging film in that it challenges you to find anything to recommend it, and is certainly worth watching just for Ethan Hawke's own reaction to it at the end!
We're on much firmer ground with our Short Shot, as its directed by Park Chan Wook! LIFE IS BUT A DREAM sees a village undertaker rob a grave of its coffin, only to be haunted by its occupant, a long dead swordsman, who forces the undertaker to explain himself. Not only is this a great little film but it was (mostly) shot using the latest iPhone! Click the link to watch the whole film!
We wrap up with our DTV Throwback - INTRUDER is directed by Scott Spiegel and contains a lot of his directorial motifs such as shooting strange POV angles. It does surprise me though that this isn't a more well-known slasher! (Warning - the trailer gives away who the killer is!}. This film is currently available on the SHUDDER streaming service.

Before we embark on a new year of films which didn't make it to the cinema but instead found their way to dvd, blu ray and streaming media, lets take a moment and reflect on what a year 2021 was.
In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve (and a cameo from Will) talk about their top 10 short films from the year, followed by our worst 5 and top 10 features. All films discussed have been covered on previous episodes.

Mike and Rich embark on the 4 hour marathon which is the JUSTICE LEAGUE SNYDER CUT and are pretty impressed by the sights along the way! In keeping with the superhero theme, our Short Shot is a Batman fan film called DYING IS EASY. The company behind this short are called Bat In The Sun and we recommend you check out some of their other shorts!
To round things off, our DTV Throwback is a DTV sequel to Sam Raimi's Darkman. In DARKMAN 2: THE RETURN OF DURANT, Arnold Vosloo takes over from Liam Neeson. Cue melting faces and big explosions!

In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve check out the new slasher INITIATION, which is heavily influenced by the Brock Turner rape case from a couple of years ago and has a lot to say about toxic Fratboy culture. The its off to Australia for the latest Shark Peril movie, GREAT WHITE, which finds five people adrift in shark-infested waters!
Gina Carano and Richard Dreyfus star in our next review, DAUGHTER OF THE WOLF, which surprised us with some of its narrative choices. Last but certainly not least, we review THE SWORDSMAN, the latest "man seeks kidnapped child" movie, this time from Korea.
Our Short Shot is the very on-the-nose titled SNAKE DICK, in which two attractive ladies turn the tables on some guys harassing them when their car breaks down at a gas station. A quick shout-out to ALTER for hosting this on their youtube channel!
The DTV Throwback is THE FINAL GIRLS, a meta love letter to 80's slashers and a big favourite of the team, so take a listen as we enthuse about it!

I was so excited about this action packed episode, I forgot to introduce the team! So, Mike Rich and Steve tackle a whole bunch of International action movies this week. We start with PHARAOH'S WAR - Mike Tyson and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Kickboxer Retaliation, Game of Thrones) feature prominently on the DVD cover but do they feature much in the film iteslf? Take a listen to find out!
Next up is RUSSIAN RAID, heavily influenced by Gareth Evans' film (hence the name) but does it stand up on its own merits?
Off to France next, for SENTINELLE, starring Olga Kurylenko as a damages soldier seeking vengeance for a brutal attack on her sister. There a lot of negativity online about this film, but take a listen to see if we are in agreement! (Available on Netflix).
We then catch the, ahem, Eurostream train from London to Paris, which is promptly hijacked by Ruby Rose in SAS: RED NOTICE based on a novel by Andy McNab. This one promised a lot, but does it live up to expectations?
Our Short Shot is SOF Vs Sci Fi, in which a team of Spec Ops are pitted against zombies and a well-known alien hunter!
Finally, in our DTV Throwback we review Jean-Claude Van Damme's LEGIONNAIRE - soon to be re-released on Blu Ray and available on Prime.

Thursday Feb 25, 2021
In this bumper episode Mike, Rich and Steve cover a whole half-dozen of new releases, starting with the Swedish thriller, RED DOT (available on Netflix) in which two campers are terrorised by someone with a sniper rifle.
Then we take a look at GATECRASH, a film with few characters but loads of tension! We welcome back former Doctor Who, Silvester McCoy in THE OWNERS, in which Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams wishes she had better taste in boyfriends. BROIL gives us a vampire dynasty story much more successfully than Vampires of New Orleans did. WHAT LIES BELOW involves a teenage girl discovering her mother's new boyfriend might not be who he appears to be and ARCHENEMY touches on ideas from Will Smith's Hancock but with its own flourishes.
Out Short Shot is SQUADRON, a Star Trek fan move from the Czech Republic - make sure you switch on the Closed Captions for the subs as the ones impriinted on the film are tiny! This is set in the midst of Deep Space 9's Dominion War and is well worth a look!
Finally, in our DTV Throwback we take a look at STEAL, starring Stephen Dorff, Natasha Henstridge and Bruce Payne.

Our Short Shot is FASTER - this is a follow up to the excellent The Cure, which we reviewed last year. Click the link to watch the whole thing.
