Anyway, this week we take a look at two Anglo-Polish productions about events set during World War 2. First up is HURRICANE, about 303 Squadron. This is followed by the mystery drama THE LAST WITNESS. Then we change tack completely, with the latest horror movie from director Pascal Laugier, IN A GHOSTLAND. Please excuse my voice this week folks - I lost my voice a few days before and was still pretty rough during the recording! I've managed to edit out most of the coughing but there's still some in there so please bear with me!
 
Anyhoo, this week we take a good hard look at Nicolas Cage, as he has had three movies out recently and we've rounded them up to take a gander. First up is THE HUMANITY BUREAU, a curious sci-fi action film with some nice anti-Trump nuggets here and there. Second we have the "based on a true story" movie 211, in with about-to-retire cop Nic Cage finds himself stumbling onto a quartet of very violent bank robbers. Finally we have MOM AND DAD, in which Cage co-stars with Selma Blair as a parents who find themselves overcome with the need to murder their children. Can this film help me overcome my aversion to anything directed by Brian Taylor (Crank/Gamer)? Tune in to find out.

With World Cup Fever raging on and about to come to a peak on Sunday night - our usual recording slot, Mike and Rich take advantage of the turmoil and take another look at the world of short films. This week we have a total of 12 shorts, coming to a total running time of approx 3hrs 51min between them. In this selection you will find PARTITIONED HEART and TO BE ALONE - two films which deal with a person going through the grieving process, 18, a film which harks back to the harrowinig Public Information adverts from the 70's and 80's, ROSE TIGER, in which a young girl wants to be like Bruce Lee, SWEET WATER and FTL, two fx-heavy sci-fi movies, HELLMEN OF AGENCY 9, a strange mix of sci-fi and political thriller, the thrilling animated TANK, and the first instalment of CASH: THE SERIES. Our final two films are the fan-film THE BROKEN GEAR (based on the FINAL FIGHT video game) and the wonderful BLINDSIDED: THE GAME. On top of all of this there is the usual DTV Chart, Coming Soon and Washing Up sections!

In the midst of the World Cup, we've got an eclectic mix of films, from the sublime to the ridiculous! This week, Mike and Dave take a look at Pool Party Massacre, a homage to the classic slashers of yesteryear. This is followed up with the real deal - XTRO, an 80's cult classic which has been given a rather stellar blu ray special edition. Next up is FLIGHT FROM HELL, the previous instalment to Lost in the Pacific which we reviewed a while back! And finally, there's MOHAWK, the second feature by TED GEOGHEGEN (apologies Ted for mispronouncing your name at the beginning of the episode!). We hit some problems when recording this week. Originally we'd planned to record two whole episodes but nearly an hour into the session we discovered that Mike's part of the conversation wasn't recording, for some reason! Luckily we were able sort out a work-around and carry on, and the result is a tonne of reviews that we've split over two parts. In this first instalment there is the usual DTV Chart, Coming Soon section and three main reviews: ACCIDENT MAN, JAILBREAK and COLD SKIN.

Welcome to the first episode of The DTV Digest to be hosted by Podbean! You can find all our previous episodes on thesmokinglamb.com page on Soundcloud. We have decided to split away from our big brother and strike out on our own!
This is a fortnightly podcast which aims to bring you news and reviews of films which didn't make it to the cinema and instead went straight to DVD, Blu Ray or streaming media (DTV is an archaic acronym meaning Direct to Video, but is still apt for our purposes!).
 
This week, host Mike is joined by Richard Hawes and Tom Joliffe, and between them they look at Female Fight Club, 11 Blocks and Once Upon a Time in Venice - among lots of other DTV goodness!
