Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
This week Mike, Rich and Steve tackle films which represent the highs and lows of the DTV landscape. We start with TWO HEADS CREEK, hot off a showing at this year's (virtual) FrightFest Film Festival. Next up is BULLETPROOF, starring Thomas Jane, which originally went by the title Crown Vic (the make of police car). Finally we watch a bunch of people go through hell in an elevator in 9/11, starring the likes of Charlie Sheen, Gina Gershon and Whoopi Goldberg (currently available on Amazon Prime)...
Our Short Shot is SNAKE EYES, a fan-made film using the GI JOE character, directed by the guy behind Death Kiss!
Finally, our DTV Throwback is SONS OF LIBERTY, a film I covered a long time ago and gave a pretty glowing review - has my opinion changed?

In this episode, Mike, Rich and Steve kick off with the Russian, period sci-fi thriller SPUTNIK, which definitely evokes the old Quatermass films! Then it's off to Poland for some Fast n Furious style street racing, with RACE FAST - check out our review to find out if it's worth a look!
In HUNTER'S MOON, Thomas Jane must sort out a home invasion before things get nasty and we find out that MESSAGE MAN has a very particular set of skills.
Our Short Shot this week is GAMBIT - PLAY FOR KEEPS, a fan made non-profit film featuring a certain Marvel character and a certain well-known actor. Click the link to watch the whole short film!
We must give a shout-out to @mattybudrewicz for giving us the heads up about our DTV Throwback, THE ASSAULT, which is an action packed siege movie from Jim Wynorski, the director of a previous Throwback, Storm Trooper. Unfortunately I couldn't find a trailer for this one, but the film itself is available on Amazon Prime.

This week, Mike and Rich take a look at the horror movie THE DRONE - and while the concept may seem silly, you might be surprised by its execution. Take a listen to find out more! Our second feature review is THE NIGHT SITTER, a horror with comedic overtones.
Our Short Shot is PERPS, a very funny comedy with a very surprising special appearance at the end - check it out by clicking the link.
Finally, our DTV Throwback is the vanity project, REDLINE - boy, do we have a few things to say about that...!

*Audio is fixed!
This week Mike, Rich and Steve look at three new releases. First up is the Norwegian action thriller steeped in Norse mythology, MORTAL, directed by Troll Hunter's André Øvredal. Following this we have the indie time travel/body horror movie, SHIFTER, and our third feature is 2099: THE SOLDIER PROTOCOL which surprisingly co-stars David Arquette!
Our Short Shot this week is HERO, and we finish up with another DTV Throwback obscurity, SOUL SEARCHER!
As usual, if you click the links they will take you to the trailer, or in the case of the Short Shot the film itself. Soul Searcher's director, Neil Oseman, has placed a legit copy of Soul Searcher online and clicking the link above will take you to it. 2099 The Solder Protocol is available on Amazon Prime.
Check it out and let us know what you think!

*Apologies for the audio quality this episode - this is the LAST time we are using skype to record, things shall be improving we promise!!
This week, Mike and Rich tackle the new black comedy/crime drama ARKANSAS which stars Liam Hemsworth and Vince Vaughn, among others. Then we switch genres to OPEN 24 HOURS, in which a woman is stalked by her serial killer ex boyfriend...or is she?....or....isn't she??
Our short shot is DO NO HARM and, seriously everyone needs to check it out. Click the link to watch!
Finally, Rich has managed to discover another obscure action movie for our DTV Throwback, which is STORMTROOPER - a film which really messed with my expectations. I couldn't find an actual trailer for this so enjoy this short clip dubbed into Russian (?). Anyway the film is available on Amazon Prime, check out our review to find out if its worth your time!

Episode 115: Alien Outbreak, American Fighter, Trace, Silent Trigger
Tuesday Jul 21, 2020
Tuesday Jul 21, 2020
Editor's note - like the previous episode this week the audio quality is a bit inconsistent, but it should improve very soon!
This week, Mike and Rich are rejoined by Steve Lockeridge and Will Bentley to discuss two main features: first up is the independent sci-fi thriller, ALIEN OUTBREAK which contains some stunning alien creations. This is followed by AMERICAN FIGHTER, which may defy your assumptions based on that title!
Our Short Shot is TRACE, a martial arts clip set in a distopian future where Artificial Intelligence is being put to some interesting uses.
Finally our DTV Throwback this week is SILENT TRIGGER, starring Dolph Lundgren. As a big fan of the series Leverage, I was pleasantly surprised to see who his costar was! This is available on Amazon Prime so check it out if you like what we say about it.

In this week's episode, Mike and Rich delve back to the time of ARTHUR AND MERLIN: KNIGHTS OF CAMELOT, the latest in a long line of films looking at the legend of King Arthur. Our second feature review is INHERITANCE, in which Simon Pegg gets to try out an American accent!
For our Short Shot we decide to POP DOWN with director and co-star James Button, in a film which really resonates with the current/recent lockdown situation. Finally, for our DTV Throwback, we head down to Columbia with Christopher Walken to overthrow a corrupt government in MCBAIN.
Check it out!
Please note: the audio quality might sound a bit "off" for the next couple of episodes due to having to resort to a different recording set-up but this should be rectified soon!

Episode 113 - I Am Vengeance: Retaliation, The Cure, US SEALS 2
Wednesday Jul 08, 2020
Wednesday Jul 08, 2020
in this Action packed, testosterone fuelled episode, Mike, Rich and Steve interview ROSS BOYASK about his latest film, I AM VENGEANCE: RETALIATION, starring Stu Bennet and Vinnie Jones, before launching into our review.
And in keeping with that film, our Short Shot is the seriously action packed THE CURE, which apparently was made for a poultry $16,000 - when you see the size and scope of the action in that film you'll realise why that is such a big deal and why we consider it one of the best shorts we've seen this year!
And finally we wind up with the wonderfully quirky action movie US SEALS 2, directed by none other than Isaac Florentine.
Check it out!!

The Short Shot this week is the excellent THE ROBBERY*, which was either shot in one take or seamlessly edited to appear so. And out DTV Throwback is a film I've forever been meaning to catch up with, the cult classic FREEWAY starring Reese Witherspoon and Keifer Sutherland. Enjoy!
