Welcome to the first episode of Short Shots, a spin-off from the main show in which we concentrate solely on short films!
In this episode, Mike and Rich take a look at four films which are all spin-offs from well-known franchises. Some are fan films, others have a more official pedigree.
First up is JUMANJI: LEVEL ONE tells the story of how the game came into being in the first place and ties in neatly with the original Robin Williams starring film.
Next we take a look at POKEMON: BANETTE"S CURSE, which is about as far removed from the cartoon series as you can get but still be inherently part of the Pokemon Universe!
Our next is a Star Wars fan film called BOSSK: SCOREKEEPER, which mashes up a rescue mission with another, very well-known franchise! See how long it takes you to realise what's going on!
Finally we have TROLL BRIDGE - based on the works of Terry Pratchet, this sees Cohen The Barbarian preparing to take on a troll.

Episode 142: Willy's Wonderland, Wrong Turn, Hopkins, Into The Grizzly Maze
Tuesday Feb 16, 2021
Tuesday Feb 16, 2021
In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve take a look at WILLY'S WONDERLAND, a film which takes its concept from a cult video game and stars the always watchable Nic Cage!
We follow this with the remake/reboot/re-concept of WRONG TURN, which may be now called The Foundation as it heads in a very different direction to the established film series and gives us a very different style of antagonist. Is it any good though? Tune in to find out!
Our Short Shot is HOPKINS, a sequel of sorts to Commando Ninja (click links for both films) - although its not really necessary to know that going into it.
Finally, in our DTV Throwback section we review INTO THE GRIZZLY MAZE, featuring a stellar cast (not least of which is the bear himself!)

In this episode Mike and Will take a look at three films. Kicking off with TOKYO DRAGON CHEF, which riffs very heavily on the classic Blues Brothers! Then we take a look SILENCE AND DARKNESS, in which two sisters, one blind and the other deaf, discover a dark secret. Our final film, SATOR, takes us deep into the woods to look for a primordial demon!
Rich then takes over the co-host role to look at our Short Shot, HIGHWAY VIOLENCE, which is really an extended music video for a track by Qixotic but is so well done and packed with great movie references. Click the link to watch the whole thing!
Finally Rich and I take a trip down memory lane with the DTV Throwback, which this week is WARLOCK: THE ARMAGEDDON. I'm a big fan of the original film, which starred Richard E. Grant alongside Julian Sands, but I had never seen either of the sequels. Would it stand up to expectations? As is usual with our throwbacks, this is currently available on Amazon Prime.

Epidode 140 - Synchronic, Outside the Wire, Anti-Life, Faster, Dark Breed
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve look at a whole bunch of sci-fi movies. We kick off with SYNCHRONIC, starring Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan as two paramedics who come across a new drug messing people up. Anthony Mackie also stars in our second film, OUTSIDE THE WIRE, a Netflix original in which he plays a cyborg hunting terrorists in the Ukraine. Our final feature is ANTI LIFE, also known as Breach in the US. This co-stars Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane and is set on board a spaceship infected with an alien parasite.
Our Short Shot is FASTER - this is a follow up to the excellent The Cure, which we reviewed last year. Click the link to watch the whole thing.
Finally, we take a look at DARK BREED, a PM Entertainment film starring Jack Scalia as an ex Astronaut tasked with locating colleagues who have been infected/possessed by an alien parasite.

Episode 139: The Doorman, Yeti, 12 Hour Shift, Ready, The Cold Light of Day
Tuesday Jan 26, 2021
Tuesday Jan 26, 2021
In this episode Mike, Rich and Steve take a look at THE DOORMAN, starring Ruby Rose and Jean Reno. After a season as Batgirl and numerous strong supporting roles, is Ruby ready to carry a feature film? Check out our review to find out!
Next up is YETI, aka Abominable, which....well, listen for yourselves. It certainly has some surprises!
We follow that with 12 HOUR SHIFT, a kind of farcical crime story set in a hospital which reminded us of a certain short film we reviewed last year...
Our Short Shot is READY, a British actioner in which a female police officer takes on a gang of kidnappers. Tune in to find out if it raised our collective pulses! This film is available via Amazon Prime - click the link if you are a subscriber...
Finally, our DTV Throwback is THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY - not to be confused with Cold Light of Day starring Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis, this one stars Richard E Grant as a police detective hunting a child murderer. Never heard of it? NEITHER HAD I til Rich hauled it out of obscurity and dusted it off (actually its available on Amazon Prime).

Episode 138 - Relic, Tailgate, ARK Exitus, Ice cream Man
Tuesday Jan 19, 2021
Tuesday Jan 19, 2021
In this episode, Mike and Rich look at two films which were well received at last year's Fightfest festival. First up is the Australian film, RELIC, in which an elderly woman's disappearance causes concern for her daughter. We follow that with the very fraught TAILGATE, a film from the Netherlands in which a man's road rage puts him and his family in mortal peril.
Our short shot this week is ARK EXITUS, a new film from Johnny Yong Bosch. Normally we'd put a link to the whole film here but other than being available for a preview weekend, it has yet to resurface!
Our DTV Throwback is a real curiosity - ICE CREAM MAN is a very grotesque and bizarre film which contains a couple of out there performances. The film is available on Amazon Prime, as is a RIFF TRAX version!

Happy New Year, everyone!
This is an edited version of our first show of the year, taking out the two hours (TWO HOURS!) of chat where we discuss our favourite films of 2020 in a series of round-table Top 5s. You can find that longer version HERE.
In this episode we review Jackie Chan's latest action adventure movie, VANGUARD. He may not be centre stage but he's still doing his own stunts and fight-work! Speaking of fight-work, we next look at DELIVER US FROM EVIL, a Korean action movie which introduces us to the iconic badguy, Ray The Butcher!
We then head over to Georgia to review LET IT SNOW, a survival horror movie in which a young couple are terrorised on a mountain slope. Then its a short hop to Russia for BLACKOUT: INVASION EARTH, a big-budget sci fi movie. Finally, we take a look at ROBOT RIOT.
Our Short Shot is BURNT, in which a couple moving into their new home finds a little gift left by the previous tenants - click the link to watch the whole 11min short. Finally, our DTV Throwback is the controversial JULIA X, which proved to be very interesting to talk about!

Episode 135 - Xmas Special - Nights before Christmas, Silent Night, Coming to Town, Riot
Wednesday Dec 23, 2020
Wednesday Dec 23, 2020
Merry Christmas everybody! In this special episode Mike, Rich, Steve and Will get together to delve into some Xmas-themed films, DTV style!
First up is THE NIGHTS BEFORE CHRISTMAS, a sequel to a film I really enjoyed from a couple of years ago (Once Upon A Time at Christmas). This is followed up with the British gangster movie, SILENT NIGHT.
Our Short Shot this week is an oldie-but-goodie, COMING TO TOWN, in which Santa drunkenly grants a young girl her wish of vengeance. Click the link to watch the whole film!
Our DTV Throwback is RIOT, starrting Gary Daniels and Sugar Ray Leonard. I think we talked as much about this film as the other three combined! This is currently legitimately available on Youtube.
We hope you enjoy the episode and don't forget to check us out on FACEBOOK and TWITTER for news on the latest releases and our DTV Chart!
